Science and Math - How to Make Books with Children - by Evan-Moor - $23.95

This is a great course to use with crafty children in Gde 1 - 6.  In this book, you study lots of short, interesting science and maths topics, and make a creative little book for all 36 topics.   For each topic you: (1) read something on the topic, from a chidlrens book on the topic from the library or your own collection, (2) make a crafty flap book, pop-up book, activity book etc. (3) write your own description of what you learned on the topic and glue it into the right spot in the book they made.    It woudl be easy to make 1 book per week for a year.    Some topics look at are: Magnets, Astronomy, Electricity, Mushrooms, Technology, thousands, tesselations, geometric shapes, math riddles and many more.  To suit your child's age group, just select reading books suited for their age.

In many ways, this is a wonderful way to study science for this age group.  You introduce interesting living books in a formal way, do something with them to encourage their involvement with the book, have them do a narration on the topic, and the living book itself will draw them into doing something practical on the topic.  And you have a self-made book to remind them of their study.
